The ICC world cricketing governing council has moved cricket World Cup 2011 match between India Vs England from Eden Gardens in Kolkata to Bangalore. The match will take place at the Bangalore stadium on 27th February.



Talking about this, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said, "This decision now clarifies and gives us certainty over the fixture. We can now work with our various partners and stakeholders to make sure that the match - along with the rest of the tournament - is all it should be."



Badly, Kolkata was originally allotted 3 other WC matches, the first of which is on March 15th. The ICC said an inspection team will visit Eden Gardens on February 7 to see the progress made before deciding on whether the remaining WC 2011 matches can be held as scheduled or not.

He told TVNZ that the quake, which followed a 7.0-magnitude tremor in September, possibly heralded "New Zealand's darkest day."
Queen Elizabeth II expressed her shock at the scale of the Commonwealth country's tragedy in a message sent to Keys from Buckingham Palace that said, "Please convey my deep sympathy to the families and friends of those who have been killed; my thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this dreadful event. My thoughts are also with the emergency services and everyone who is assisting in the rescue efforts."
Late Tuesday, Australian prime minister Julia Gillard said there were no confirmed Australian casualties from the earthquake, The Australian reported. However, she warned relatives of the 8,000 Australians in the quake-hit region to prepare for the worst.
"After the summer we have had here in Australia, we know what it's like to wait and to worry. We know what it's like to see devastating scenes," Gillard said. "We know what it's like to see people grieve loss. We've lived through that over the last few months ourselves. Now our New Zealand family are living through that experience, and I know the thoughts and best wishes of all Australians are with them as they deal with the aftermath of this devastating earthquake."
New Zealand deputy prime minister Bill English said late Tuesday that emergency funds were made available to aid the recovery operation, stuff.co.nz reported.
The quake was centered six miles (10 kilometers) south of the city at a depth of three miles, according to GeoNet.
Dozens of people were injured, and an unknown number of people were still missing.
Among those missing were 12 Japanese students from a foreign-language school who were believed to have been trapped under collapsed buildings, the New Zealand Herald reported.
Christchurch mayor Bob Parker told TVNZ that the death toll could double, while TV3 noted unconfirmed reports that the death toll could reach between 200 and 300

Natalie Portman was born on June 9th, 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel, as the only child of a doctor father (from Israel) and an artist mother (from Cincinnati, Ohio), who also acts as Natalie's agent. She left Israel for Washington, DC, when she was still very young. After a few more moves, her family finally settled in New York, where she still lives to this day. She graduated with honors, and her academic achievements allowed her to attend Harvard.

She was discovered by an agent in a pizza parlor at the age of 11. She was pushed towards a career in modeling but she decided that she would rather pursue a career in acting. She was featured in many live performances, but she made her powerful film debut in the movie The Professional (1994) (aka "The Professional"). Following this role Natalie won roles in such films as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), and Mars Attacks! (1996).

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially declared the 10th ICC Cricket World Cup open at a glittering ceremony at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka yesterday. ICC President Sharad Pawar welcomed the participating cricket teams. The 14 skippers made a heart-warming appearance in decorated cycle rickshaws.

There was 150-minute show that has a laser show coupled with music. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy rendered the racy theme of the competition. Bangladeshi singers, including Runa Laila, had the spectators dancing in rhythm. Legendary rock singer Bryan Adams belted out chart-busters including the popular ‘Summer of 69′ number.

Gaddafi sweats as wave of Arab unrest reaches Libya protests news

Clashes between protesters and security forces left dozens of people injured in Libya yesterday, as the upheavals which led to the overthrow of regimes in Tunisia and Egypt continued to spread across the region.

The tiny gulf state of Bahrain was hit by a third day of protests as thousands gathered for the funeral of a demonstrator killed by the security forces, while police in Yemen flooded the streets to try to quell nearly a week of anti-government unrest, sparking fresh clashes that left one protester dead.

Meanwhile, the US and Israel were on stand-by last night after claims by the right-wing Israeli Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, that two Iranian warships were stationed in the Red Sea and poised to enter the Suez Canal.

It coincided with clashes in Iraq, where around 55 people were thought to be injured after protesters attacked government offices in Kut, ripping up pavement stones to hurl at regional headquarters and setting trailers ablaze.

In Benghazi, Libya's second-largest city, demonstrators chanting "Allah il Allah" and "Allah shall triumph over unbelievers" threw petrol bombs and set cars alight in a sign of the increasingly religious fervour of the rare marches against the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the Arab world's longest-serving leader.

The rallies followed the arrest of a human rights campaigner, Fethi Tarbel, which acted as a trigger for opposition groups to take to the streets.

The authorities appeared to have been taken by surprise at the rapid escalation of the unrest, while groups of young people used Facebook to try to organise a "day of rage" for today.

The violence overnight in Benghazi, 600 miles east of the capital, Tripoli, left around 40 people injured, said Abdelkarim Gubaili, director of the city's General Hospital. Most of them were members of the security forces, he said, who were unprepared for the level of violence they had faced.

Around 600 demonstrators had marched to the local government headquarters in Sabri district and attempted to get inside the building. Scuffles turned to running battles when security forces attempted to intervene.

Residents said a semblance of normality had returned to the city by yesterday afternoon. Shops, businesses and some bank branches reopened. Fazal al-Manisi, who had shut down his furniture business, said: "We had a night of bad trouble. They were shouting, saying Allah is against corruption and all those responsible should be in prison."

In an effort to counter the protests, Libyan television yesterday showed footage of pro-government rallies in Tripoli and Benghazi with supporters holding portraits of Colonel Gaddafi and chanting: "We sacrifice our blood and souls for you, our leader." The regime also released 110 prisoners belonging to the banned Libyan Islamic Fighting Group. It was the largest release in recent times by the regime, which had carried out a ruthless campaign against fundamentalist groups in the country.

Elsewhere in the region, a funeral procession in Bahrain for the second demonstrator killed by security forces mushroomed into a rally against the government. Many mourners joined 2,000 other protesters encamped at a junction in the capital, Manama, with signs saying "This is Our Tahrir Square" and vowing to replicate the events in Egypt, where President Hosni Mubarak was ousted by protests on Friday.

The government has expressed regret over the deaths of the two protesters, both Shias, but there is increasing concern in the West over the rising protests in the kingdom, which is striving to be a financial centre to rival Dubai and is of strategic significance to the US as the base of the Navy's Fifth Fleet.

Efforts to suppress protests in Yemen, meanwhile, led to clashes and the death of one person in the southern port town of Aden, where about 500 people turned on police who had tried to disperse the crowd by firing in the air and deploying tear gas. Yemen has been gripped by six days of protests against the president of 32 years.

Libya

* Who's in charge?

The longest serving leader in the Arab world, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has ruled Libya since seizing power in a bloodless coup in 1969.

What caused the unrest?

Trouble first flared last month in several cities over a lack of subsidised housing. After weeks of calm, police and anti-government protesters again clashed this week in Benghazi.

Will the government fall?

On the surface, Libya seems ripe for revolt with an authoritarian government, high unemployment and a young population, but is somewhat protected by its vast oil wealth. Libyans enjoy state support and many sympathise with Gaddafi's stance towards the West.

Yemen

* Who's in charge?

US ally President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been the ruler of the Arab world's most impoverished nation for 32 years.

What caused the unrest?

The protests started last month inspired by the Tunisian uprising. A group calling itself the February 24 Movement has vowed to remain on the streets until the regime is toppled. A demonstrator was shot and killed in the port city of Aden yesterday during clashes with police.

Will the government fall?

Saleh has failed to defuse protester anger despite saying he will not run for another term in 2013 and that his son, Ahmed, would not succeed him. His government is weak with little control beyond the capital and is dependent on alliances with powerful tribes.

Bahrain

* Who's in charge?

A tiny oil-producing island off the coast of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain has an elected parliament. With its relatively older population and its liberal policies it might seem an unlikely candidate for revolt. But clashes with security forces this week left two people dead.

What caused the unrest?

Bahrain suffers from deep-rooted sectarian tensions, with the majority Shia Muslim population complaining that they are discriminated against by the Sunni royal family, which has ruled since 1783. Unemployment is rising.

Will the government fall?

The protesters are demanding greater power for the elected parliament and a loosening of the royal dynasty's grip. The government may have to make serious concessions to the enraged Shia population to weather the storm.

Iran

* Who's in charge?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a second term as President in 2009 in an election the opposition claim was rigged. He is the second most powerful man behind Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

What caused the unrest?

After the leadership welcomed the revolt in Egypt, the opposition seized the opportunity and called a rally in support of the other Arab nations. One person was killed and dozens injured by security forces.

Will the government fall?

The Arab uprisings appear to have given fresh impetus to the Iranian opposition. The opposition last held a major protest in December 2009 which was brutally suppressed. But would people be prepared to go on to the streets in large numbers again?

Tunisia

* Who's in charge?

A caretaker government has been in charge of the country since the dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled the country on 14 January after the protests that inspired other uprisings.

What caused the unrest?

The protests grew after a market seller set himself alight in December after he lost his licence to trade. The result: the Jasmine Revolution.

What happened next?

A state of emergency remains in place. People have returned to work, but many police have disappeared and strikes and protests continue. Elections are due to be held this year.

Eighties icon Shelley Long, 61, is choosing her TV and movie appearances carefully these days, so it's always a treat to see her on our screens -- especially when she appears on "Modern Family" as the inevitable pot-stirrer DeDe Pritchett, Mitchell and Claire's mother.

This time, she arrives (backed by ominous music) with Matt Dillon, who plays Robbie Sullivan, Claire's high school sweetheart. Apparently, when DeDe bumped into Robbie -- a limo driver -- she forgot to mention Claire's husband.

With a shaggy wig, an earring, and a four-pack of fuzzy navel wine coolers, Dillon looks every bit the nightmare ex-boyfriend. We don't blame Claire for the copious amounts of wine consumed throughout the half-hour episode as DeDe and Robbie reminisce about Claire's misspent youth... or when she busts DeDe and Robbie in a limo makeout sesh.

Ew.

We hope Long returns to the show soon - along with "all the crazy in her arsenal." The best part? The full on linebacker tackle she lays on Gloria when she realizes the root of all her problems.

When Shelley Long appeared on the first season of "Modern Family," it ultimately ended up becoming one of the funniest (and most memorable) episodes of the show's entire run. Now, we come presenting some more great news -- she's coming back.

Speaking to TVLine in a new interview, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson (who plays Mitchell ont he show) had this to say about his character's mother coming back to the show for Lilly's second birthday:

"She actually brings back with her Claire’s old boyfriend from high school (played by Matt Dillon) ... She’s trying to turn a corner and remain a little more stable, but within the 22 minutes of our sitcom you will watch her crumble.”

In other words, we can probably expect a meltdown on par with what we have seen before.

Authorities Identify ICE Agent Killed in Mexico
The Immigration Customs Enforcement agent killed in Mexico has been identified as Jaime Zapata. Police and immigration agents gathered around his Brownsville home today. The agency says he and another special agent were shot by gunmen during an apparent ambush at a fake checkpoint. President Obama called to extend his condolences to Zapata's family. The other agent was shot in the arm and leg and sent to a Houston Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.



WASHINGTON -- Public employees around the country have become the nation's scapegoats for the rough economy, with many Republican politicians in recent months criticizing them as privileged, overpaid and underworked -- unlike their private sector counterparts. But in Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker (R) is now in hot water, facing an overwhelming backlash from the state's residents.

Wisconsin is facing a $137 million budget deficit. In order to close it, Walker wants to sharply curtail the collective bargaining rights of public employee unions, effectively preventing them from negotiating benefits, hours and working conditions. (They would, however, still be able to bargain over base wages, and Walker decided to exempt firefighters and police workers from his measure.) Public workers would also have to contribute more money toward pension and health insurance plans.

What has attracted the most attention is Walker's threat to call out the National Guard in order to respond to a walk-out or any resistance to his plan.

The governor has insisted that he's not targeting public employees.

"I'm just trying to balance my budget," Walker told The New York Times. "To those who say why didn't I negotiate on this? I don't have anything to negotiate with. We don't have anything to give. Like practically every other state in the country, we're broke. And it's time to pay up." The Huffington Post was unable to get a comment from him on Wednesday.

The Republican Party of Wisconsin has said that Walker's plan will save Wisconsin $30 million over the next three months and $300 million over the next two years.

But some questioned whether his proposal is really financially necessary. The governor himself claims that Wisconsin can save $165 million by the end of next June simply by restructuring existing debt. Additionally, the share of corporate tax revenue funding the state government has fallen by half since 1981 and, according to Wisconsin Department of Revenue, two-thirds of
ATLANTA (AP) - Iman Shumpert has been one of the few bright spots in Georgia Tech's difficult season.

His job never seems easy, even against a non-conference opponent like Chattanooga, but Shumpert insists on hustling even if some of his teammates aren't.

``I was thinking maybe if they saw me getting after it and making some hustle plays and getting more rebounds, then maybe everybody would get more into it, but I felt we were flat,' Shumpert said. ``I was just trying to bring some energy.'

Glen Rice Jr. scored 27 points, Shumpert added 19 and Georgia Tech snapped a five-game losing streak with a 62-53 victory over Chattanooga on Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (11-14) had dropped six of seven, but Shumpert seemed irritated that his team looked sluggish.

``We weren't doing the little things,' Shumpert said. ``We weren't clearing the rebounds. I was just trying to get guys to contest (shots) and contest guys high and lead by example.'

Omar Wattad scored 18 points for Chattanooga (14-14), which never led. The Mocs, who have dropped four straight, pulled within four on a 3-pointer by Ricky Taylor that made it 48-44 with 6:28 remaining, but poor transition defense proved too costly.

``That has been a problem all year,' Chattanooga center Deantre Jefferson said. ``We get really close and then make mistakes. We have to get back on defense and make stops. It's hard to get over the hump.'

Shumpert pulled down 11 of Georgia Tech's 34 rebounds. Rice now has scored at least 20 points six times since Dec. 25.

The Yellow Jackets' biggest lead was 11 points at the 7:30 mark of the first half.

With 10 turnovers in each half, Chattanooga allowed 24 points off their miscues. Jefferson finished with 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, but he also led the Mocs with six turnovers.

``They got out and ran,' Jefferson said. ``They played their game. They created a lot of fast-break points. They hit the glass hard and attacked us in the paint.'

Rice hopes he's found his shooting touch in time to help Georgia Tech salvage a difficult season.

``I was trying not to take any poor shots and let Iman and other guys drive and kick it out for the inside-out 3,' Rice said. ``I think that's why I shot the ball better.'

Jackets coach Paul Hewitt still wants to see a complete performance from Rice, who was coming off a seven-game stretch against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in which he shot just 30.5 percent from the field (32 of 105).

Hewitt believes Georgia Tech would have more chances to turn around its sinking season if more players hustled like Shumpert.

``I was really happy with how Iman led us home,' Hewitt said. ``He was the guy who, when we did get a little unsettled, did a nice job. Although Glen put up 27 points, I think he was a little careless with the ball, but I thought Iman really did a nice job of leading us to victory.'

Chattanooga coach John Shulman found it easy to believe that Shumpert, a junior, leads the Jackets in scoring, rebounding and assists this season.

``Glen Rice should be hugging Shumpert because Shumpert is very difficult to guard and he makes them go,' Shulman said. ``He gets everybody shots. If you don't build a wall on him, he is going to get to the basket. He is a high-level player.'

Georgia Tech's next game is Sunday at No. 5 Duke. Chattanooga returns home for the first time in five games to face Furman in a Southern Conference matchup.
